Robert Lewandowski is in the final few months of his contract at FC Barcelona, with the deal set to expire on 30 June.

So far, there has been no indication of what his next move will be, although the early indications are that an exit could be on the cards.

After all, Lewandowski has not been offered much clarity by the Catalans on what his role would be next season if he signs a one-year extension on a reduced salary.

The option of moving to Juventus in Italy had been gaining weight of late, but it appears that there is a new twist in the tale.

Lewandowski moving away from Europe

Indeed, according to journalist Nil Sola on Cadena SER, the future of Lewandowski is increasingly pointing away from European football.

The Polish striker is becoming more and more convinced that he will leave Barcelona, with the Major League Soccer and the Saudi Arabian Pro League emerging as the strongest options.

One of Lewandowski’s main priorities is to extend his international career with the Poland national football team. This objective is playing a decisive role in shaping his next move.

The forward wants to remain a key figure for his country and believes that moving to a league outside Europe could help him better manage his workload and arrive in optimal condition for international duty.

In this context, MLS and the Saudi league stand out above other destinations. Both would offer a lower competitive intensity compared to Europe’s top leagues, something Lewandowski values at this stage of his career.

Cristiano Ronaldo an example for Lewandowski

However, Saudi Arabia currently holds a slight advantage. Its proximity to Europe and minimal time difference would make travel for international matches easier and reduce physical strain, a factor considered crucial within the player’s circle.

Lewandowski is also closely following the example of Cristiano Ronaldo, who has managed to maintain his international performance while playing outside Europe, in Saudi.

The Portuguese forward’s case reinforces the idea that such a move can still allow a player to remain decisive for his national team and potentially compete at major tournaments such as UEFA Euro 2028 in England.

As such, Lewandowski could follow in the Real Madrid icon’s footsteps and secure a move to Saudi Arabia, where he has no shortage of interest.
