Barcelona veteran leaves the door open for exit after season ends – ‘I’m not ruling it out’ | OneFootball

Robert Lewandowski enjoyed the La Liga title celebrations with his family after FC Barcelona’s win against Real Madrid.

His reactions on the night were closely watched for any hint that he might be saying goodbye, but the Polish striker kept things measured throughout the night.

Lewandowski open to joining a less competitive league

During the celebrations, Lewandowski spoke to Polish TV channel Eleven Sports and left the door open to a move to MLS or another lower-profile league at the end of the season.

“There could be an opportunity in a lower league. I’m nearly 38, but I feel physically fit, so I’m considering it,” he said, as quoted by SPORT.

“I have to bear in mind that it might be time to play and enjoy life. Perhaps that opportunity will arise, and I’m not ruling it out,” the 37-year-old veteran added.

Lewandowski did not want to confirm anything and made it clear that only after La Liga is over would he seriously think about his future at Barça.

“What will I do in the autumn? I don’t know. I’ve just found out I have 51 days left on my contract, so I still have time. I’ll listen to a few more offers and then decide,” he said.

The Polish forward, who started on the bench in Sunday’s El Clasico, expressed pride in everything he has achieved at the top level in his career.

“I’ve won a total of 14 league titles, I’ve won them at every club I’ve played for, that really impresses me and I’m proud of it,” Lewandowski claimed.

Finally, Lewandowski also joked about recent comments from his teammate Wojciech Szczesny, who suggested he should retire and then reconsider his options.

“You know what he’s like: today he says one thing, tomorrow he’ll say another,” he remarked with a laugh.

“It’s not as if I wake up in the morning and something’s hurting. I appreciate where I am and I’m enjoying it. We’ll see what happens, but one thing’s clear: I’m going to keep playing.”

A meeting took place between Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, and Barcelona sporting director, Deco, earlier today to discuss the striker’s future.
