FC Barcelona lost their first La Liga game of the season on Sunday as they were hammered 4-1 by Sevilla away at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

It was a very disappointing performance from the La Liga champions, and the fact that it came days after the loss to PSG in Europe made it even more hurtful.

Ronald Araujo was a letdown in defence in the first period, while the whole attacking unit, barring Marcus Rashford, was poor.

Lewandowski reflects on Sevilla loss

Robert Lewandowski, handed a rare start, was guilty of missing a penalty in the second half, when the scoreline was still 2-1.

The veteran striker, now with the Poland national team for their international fixtures, appeared in front of the media earlier today and discussed the miss from the penalty spot as well as the defeat against Sevilla in general.

“It’s well known that matches like yesterday’s happen. That’s football. Things don’t always turn out the way you want them to. Missed penalties are part of the game,” stated Lewandowski, as quoted by SPORT.

“It hurts today, but I hope we react positively. These kinds of situations can make us stronger. We’re really keen to get our revenge. We have to show that on the pitch,” he further explained.

It has not been an ideal start to the season for Lewandowski, who has been overtaken by Ferran Torres as the starting No. 9 in Hansi Flick’s team.

The 37-year-old had shown glimpses of form in the preceding week, scoring in back-to-back games against Real Oviedo and Real Sociedad, but went missing on Sunday.

As the most experienced player in the squad, Lewandowski must step up in a big way for Barcelona once club football resumes later this month, with El Clasico just around the corner.
