After three months without playing, Ansu Fati has recently returned to Barcelona matchday squads. Hansi Flick even granted the forward a few minutes on the pitch against Borussia Dortmund as a reward for his efforts in training.

However, it is clear that the 22-year-old attacker will see very limited action for the remainder of the season as he remains on the periphery of the manager’s plans.

As such, Fati and his camp have made the decision to move on from Barcelona at the end of the season, with the La Masia graduate informing his agent, Jorge Mendes, to find a new club for him in the summer.

Barcelona prefer not to terminate Fati’s contract

Barcelona, for their part, are also ready to sanction the exit of Ansu Fati in the upcoming summer window.

However, as reported by SPORT, the major hurdle lies in the Barça No. 10’s contract, which runs until 2027 and includes a significant salary, complicating a potential exit.

This makes the matter particularly delicate for the club. But Barcelona will most likely prioritise their financial stability and will seek to minimise losses as much as possible.

As such, while the Catalans have not ruled out the possibility of terminating Ansu Fati’s contract, they would prefer, if no transfer offer materialises, to grant the player a free release via a ‘letter of freedom’, thereby saving two years of wages.

It is clear that the player is unwilling to forgo any of his earnings, and the club are prepared to assist him within reason.

A permanent departure is currently the most likely outcome for Fati, although it remains to be seen whether an agreement can be reached between both parties.

If not, another option could be a contract renewal followed by a new loan spell in hopes that the Spaniard can revive his career elsewhere.
