Barcelona are reportedly keeping their focus on the long-term rather than the short-term transfer market.

As revealed by Luis Miguelsanz in SPORT, the club does not plan to bring in any new signings during the January transfer window.

However, there is already a strategy in place for the upcoming summer window, which could see some significant adjustments to the squad.

It must be noted that when Hansi Flick took charge, he made it clear that he would not request immediate reinforcements. He believed in maximising the potential of the current squad.

His only push for signings was for a player who could deliver decisive moments in matches, particularly in the attacking department.

The club responded by bringing in Dani Olmo. Ultimately, Flick retained control over midfield and wide positions, showing confidence in the players available.

What is the bigger plan?

While no changes are expected in January, discussions have already started about how the team can evolve during the summer transfer window.

The top priorities include signing two full-backs and a high-quality left winger. These additions are seen as key to helping the team take a significant step forward.

Additionally, the idea of bringing in a physically strong midfielder has gained traction, as the squad currently lacks such a profile. However, any move for this position would depend on finding a player at a reasonable price.

And a striker…

Another area under scrutiny is the centre-forward position. Both Deco and Flick recognise the risks of relying solely on Robert Lewandowski, whose performance has shown signs of decline.

While the Polish striker’s contract renewal is not in doubt, the club is considering advancing plans for his replacement if resources allow.

This decision will also depend on how the season unfolds and the availability of top-tier strikers in the summer market.

Finding a prolific goalscorer might prove challenging, as many elite forwards could remain tied to their current clubs. In comparison, securing a quality winger appears to be a more realistic option for the summer.

Barcelona’s management will need to assess their priorities carefully as they work towards building a more balanced and competitive squad for the future.
