Barcelona have been working hard behind the scenes, as they seek to close several signings in the coming weeks. Anthony Gordon has already joined from Newcastle United, and in the next few days, signing number two should be in the door.
Back in January, Barcelona reached an agreement with Egyptian giants Al Ahly to sign Hamza Abdelkarim on loan for the second half of the 2025-26 season. As part of that deal, the Catalans retained an option to sign the 18-year-old striker, and after he impressed for the U19s over the last few months, the decision was taken to activate this clause.
Earlier this month, Al Ahly confirmed that Barcelona had moved to activate their buy option for Abdelkarim, who is currently with Egypt at the 2026 World Cup in North America. Since then, the final details of the agreement have been worked on, but finally, a complete resolution is in sight for all parties.
As per MD, Barcelona are planning to announce the permanent signing of Abdelkarim on Monday. An exchange of documentation between the two clubs is currently taking place to finish the necessary procedures, and once those are finalised, the Catalans will finally have their man.

The fact that Abdelkarim has already made a World Cup appearance at 18 says everything about how he is seen within the world of football. Barcelona believe he can become the club’s starting striker in the coming years, and next month, he is expected to be under Hansi Flick’s order for the club’s pre-season program.
It may be that Abdelkarim features more for Barca Atletic in his first full season in Catalonia, but he will surely have chances to make an impact with the first team – this will especially be the case if Barcelona fail to sign a big-name striker before the end of the summer.
