Lamine Yamal returned to the scoresheet in Barcelona’s 3-1 victory over Elche last night, delivering another reminder of his natural brilliance.

Yet, despite his goal, it became clear that the youngster is still not operating at full physical strength, a concern confirmed by manager Hansi Flick after the match.

Providing an honest update on the teenager’s condition, Flick explained

“His injury needs to be managed. He has to train, have treatment… I can’t say the injury is over; it comes and goes. And he has to manage it.

So what now?

According to MARCA, this situation has prompted Barcelona to adopt a cautious approach.

The coaching staff and medical team have decided that Yamal will no longer be playing the full 90 minutes in every match, as he did so frequently last season.

The report adds that the plan is to allow Yamal to continue playing regularly, but in moderation.

He will start certain matches but may be substituted before full-time to reduce strain on his body.

Last season, the youngster was almost ever-present, starting 58 of the 62 matches he played, but those intense demands have taken a toll.

Flick has reportedly told the player that finishing games on the bench is now a crucial part of his recovery process, one that he must strictly follow.

There are signs already

In recent fixtures, this strategy has already been visible. Out of Barcelona’s last four matches, Yamal has completed just one, which was the El Clasico.

Against Girona, Olympiacos, and Elche, he was substituted and went straight to the dressing room for precautionary treatment.

However, the 18-year-old will continue to train as usual, as the club believes that Yamal understands the necessity of this measured approach.

He is reportedly fully committed to following the medical plan, knowing that managing his pubalgia is essential to extending his career longevity.
