Barcelona are gearing up for an important week ahead. Their star player Ferran Torres has already hinted that he may leave the club this summer amid interest from PSG.

Barcelona are looking to sign Julian Alvarez as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, but time is running out, with the Argentine set to rejoin the Atletico Madrid training camp on August 10.

The club, therefore, will be forced to make some crucial decisions in the next seven days.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona continue to pursue Alvarez and believe the deal remains feasible, even if it could drag on until the final two weeks of August.

The club are encouraged by the striker’s stance, with Alvarez still determined to leave Atletico, where he is contracted until 2030, in order to join Barcelona.

The Catalans expect him to reaffirm that desire to the Atletico hierarchy when he reports for pre-season training on Monday, August 10.

Barcelona remain committed to Alvarez for a couple of key reasons. Firstly, the player has shown great dedication to the club, including publicly requesting a transfer during the World Cup.

Secondly, he is very much Hansi Flick’s preferred striker, with the German viewing him as the ideal number nine thanks to his mobility, technique, versatility, goalscoring and work rate.

Another factor driving Barcelona’s persistence is the lack of viable alternatives at the top end of the market.

After a detailed analysis, the club have concluded there are few genuinely elite centre-forwards available.

Erling Haaland and Harry Kane are not considered feasible targets, while options a step below, such as Victor Osimhen, still command hefty fees, with Napoli asking around €75 million.

That scarcity has only strengthened Barcelona’s resolve to exhaust every avenue with Alvarez.

Keeping that in mind, Barcelona are adamant they will not sign a striker simply for the sake of it.

Should the Alvarez deal collapse, the club are prepared to go without a new forward altogether, instead relying on the false nine options already in the squad.

The only scenario that would force their hand is the departure of Ferran Torres, which would leave them short of two strikers following Robert Lewandowski’s exit and necessitate at least one signing.
