Barcelona travel to Madrid for a La Liga showdown with Atletico Madrid on Saturday, with both teams aiming to build momentum before a busy stretch of domestic and European fixtures.

Barcelona top the league table by four points from second-placed Real Madrid, sitting on 73 points from 29 matches. They come into this match unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions after suffering back-to-back defeats in February against Atletico Madrid and Girona. That run includes a 7-2 win over Newcastle in the Champions League round of 16 second leg and a 1-0 league victory over Rayo Vallecano in their most recent outing.

Barcelona team news

Barcelona have been dealt a major setback, with Raphinha ruled out for about five weeks, which means he will miss the league match against Atletico as well as the Champions League ties that follow. That opens the door for Marcus Rashford to step in on the wing and make a stronger case for a bigger role under Hansi Flick.

Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde have both returned to training after injury problems and could be available for selection, although Barcelona may still be careful with both players.

Hansi Flick also has Eric Garcia back in the squad, and the defender should return to the back line.

In midfield, Frenkie de Jong is expected to be rested for this league game so he can focus on the European return leg next week, while Andreas Christensen remains out with a long-term injury.

Marc Bernal is likely to keep his place in the starting XI alongside Pedri.
