Barcelona travel to Belgium for a crucial UEFA Champions League clash against Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday.
After their setback in El Clásico, losing 2-1 to Real Madrid, the Catalan side issued a strong response. At the weekend, Barcelona saw off Elche 3-1 at home thanks to goals from Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres, and Marcus Rashford. That vital win propelled Barcelona back up to second spot in La Liga, reducing the gap behind leaders Real Madrid to five points.
Their European campaign has been mixed so far. Hansi Flick’s men sit ninth in the league phase after three matches. They edged Newcastle United 2-1 in their opening fixture, then lost to reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain by the same scoreline, before routing 10-man Olympiacos 6-1, courtesy of a Fermin Lopez hat-trick.
The Spanish side will be without several major players for their trip to Brugge. First-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen remains absent following back surgery, which means Wojciech Szczesny should continue in goal. Hansi Flick will also miss the services of Pedri, who picked up a hamstring injury in El Clásico and is set for around three weeks on the sidelines.
Raphinha’s recovery from a hamstring knock is ongoing, and Gavi is out for the long term as he rehabilitates a knee problem that will keep him sidelined until 2026. Joan Garcia has returned to training after his knee injury but is not expected to feature just yet.
The return of Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo boosts the squad, with both making substitute appearances during the Elche match and likely fit enough to feature again. Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal—managing a persistent groin complaint—should keep his spot after finding the net last time out.
Possible Barcelona starting XI: Szczesny; Kounde, Cubarsi, E Garcia, Balde; Casado, De Jong; Yamal, Fermin, Rashford; F Torres.
The match will kick off at 8pm BST on Wednesday, 5th November.
For fans in the UK, the match will be broadcast on TNT Sports 4, with live streaming available on Discovery+. Subscribers with a TNT Sports package can stream via the app or website.
