The summer transfer window is now done and dusted, but there is no time to relax for the Barcelona sporting department.

Deco & Co. are already moving on to their next task, which is to close the contract renewals of a couple of key players whose current deals expire in 2026 – Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia.

As reported earlier in the week, Barça have already intensified talks with De Jong’s entourage over a new deal, which would run until 2028 with an option for an additional year.

No talks taking place with Eric Garcia yet

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are yet to begin any contract negotiations with Eric Garcia.

The idea is for Deco to dive into talks with the Spanish defender once he returns from Brazil, although Barcelona intend to resolve De Jong’s renewal first before opening negotiations with the La Masia trainee.

The belief is that the contract talks with Garcia and his camp are not expected to pose major difficulties, as the player has no intentions of leaving the club anytime soon.

Within the club, the consensus is that Garcia has gone from being a transfer-listed player to a defensive cornerstone, now expected to step up, be it at right-back or centre-back, where there is a gap left by Inigo Martinez’s move to Saudi Arabia.

Garcia enjoys the full confidence of coach Hansi Flick, who started the Spaniard ahead of Jules Kounde in the first two games of the new season.

And the ex-Manchester City ace certainly wants to continue at Barcelona. As such, renewal talks are expected to go smoothly once the two parties sit down to negotiate.
