The Spanish giants first played in the Champions League back in 2012 and have enjoyed major success over recent years.

Barcelona won the tournament in 2021, 2023 and 2024, while also losing finals in 2019, 2022 and 2025.

After losing to Arsenal in the final of last season’s competition, Barcelona got off to a stunning start this time around, beating German giants Bayern Munich 7-1.

The German side had enjoyed an unbeaten start to their domestic campaign with four wins and a draw. They have also been regarded as potential underdogs to win this season’s Champions League.

However, Barcelona, despite financial issues over the summer which saw them begin the season with just 17 registered first-team players, laid down an early marker in the Champions League.

However, their 7-1 win over Bayern Munich is only their fifth-biggest win in the competition. Below, we take a look at the biggest wins for Barcelona in the Women’s Champions League.

What is the biggest win for Barcelona in the Women’s Champions League?

Barcelona’s biggest wins in the Women’s Champions League are 9-0 triumphs over Benfica and Hammarby.

The Spanish side put nine goals past Benfica in the group stage of the 2022-23 competition.

Geyse and Asisat Oshoala both scored braces, while Patricia Guijarro, Aitana Bonmati, Mariona Caldentey and Claudia Pina also got onto the scoresheet.

In the reverse fixture, Barcelona again thrashed Benfica 6-2 – a result which sits just outside the top 10 of their biggest wins in Women’s Champions League history,

Barcelona repeated that scoreline with a 9-0 victory over Hammarby in the group stage of last season’s competition.

On that occasion, Pina and Caroline Graham Hansen both scored braces, with Alexia Putellas, Mapi Leon, Ewa Pajor, Esmee Brugts and Fridolina Rolfo also scoring.

Their biggest knockout stage victory is a 6-1 triumph over VfL Wolfsburg in last season’s competition.

What happened in Barcelona’s 7-1 win over Bayern Munich?

Barcelona took the lead inside just four minutes against Bayern Munich after a goal from Alexia Putellas.

Goals from Ewa Pajor, Esmee Brugts and Salma Paralluelo gave the Spanish side a 4-1 lead at half-time, after Klara Buhl briefly gave Bayern Munich a glimpse of hope.

Pajor added a second goal in the second-half, while Claudia Pina – the top scorer in last season’s Champions League – scored two late goals.

“I’d say yes, it was [the perfect night],” said Barcelona coach Pere Romeu after the win. “I didn’t really expect a result as emphatic as that. But what makes me most happy, even more than the result, is the quality of the play. That made me most happy.”

An AI simulation of the Women’s Champions League predicted that Barcelona will win the Champions League, beating Chelsea in the final.

Barcelona’s victory over Munich shows that the Spanish side will take some stopping in this season’s competition.
