Barcelona have already been informed that they are operating under La Liga’s 1:1 rule, giving them the freedom to invest in the squad and register new signings without the restrictions.

Notably, that financial flexibility has already allowed Barcelona to move forward with major operations.

The arrival of Anthony Gordon and the attempt to sign Julian Alvarez have become possible because the club has the salary margin required to accommodate both players, with Marcus Rashford expected to leave and Robert Lewandowski already gone.

Won’t stay for long

However, according to RAC1, Barcelona do not expect this favourable situation to last forever.

The outlet mentions that club officials are already working under the assumption that they will most likely fall outside La Liga’s 1:1 rule again in 2027, which is why the current transfer window is being treated as one of the most important in recent years.

The concern is linked directly to the ongoing redevelopment of Spotify Camp Nou.

Barcelona have already submitted a request to use the Montjuic Olympic Stadium during the 2027/28 season due to the planned installation of the new Camp Nou roof.

The work is expected to begin during the summer of 2027 and could take between four and five months to complete.

Why Barcelona expect to leave 1:1 rule in 2027

As a result, Barcelona may be forced to start the season away from their renovated stadium, which would result in major financial implications.

A temporary return to Montjuic would likely reduce matchday income, hospitality revenue and other commercial earnings compared to what Barcelona expect to generate at a fully operational Spotify Camp Nou.

That drop in revenue is the main reason the club believe they could once again fall outside La Liga’s 1:1 rule in 2027, reducing their flexibility in the transfer market and making future registrations more complicated.

This development explains Barcelona’s determination to complete major deals now rather than postponing them.

The signings of Anthony Gordon and possibly  Julian Alvarez are viewed as long-term investments that can strengthen the squad before another period of financial restrictions potentially arrives.
