Wojciech Szczesny’s move to Barcelona is all but complete and is only pending official confirmation from the club.

Hearing of Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s season-ending injury last weekend, the Polish shot-stopper made himself available despite announcing his retirement recently and accelerated through talks to reach an agreement.

As it stands, the Catalans have an agreement in place to sign the Polish star and he will link up with the team at the earliest.

Preparing hard

As revealed in a recent update from SPORT, Szczesny has already restarted training ahead of his move to Barcelona and is working hard to return to complete match fitness.

He has increased his physical activity routines manifold and hopes to reach Monday’s medical check-up in top shape.

The player is currently training at Marbella and will travel to Barcelona on either Sunday or Monday. From there on, he will be under the command of Julio Tous and Hansi Flick and will continue his bid to return to fitness.

If everything goes to plan, Barcelona hope the Polish star can make it in time to face Sevilla on October 20th, immediately after the international break. After all, he has not played in months and will be understandably rusty.

It is thus not ruled out that Szczesny could even start Barcelona’s game against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, now that it is clear that he can be registered.

With even El Clasico just around the corner as well, the Catalans will hope he can find his best form at the earliest.

All eyes until then will be on Inaki Pena who has not conceded a goal in over 135 minutes this season and is making a strong case for minutes under the German coach.
