An insight into the plans of the powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona, in the case of their efforts to bring back João Cancelo coming up short, has on Sunday been provided.

Full-back Cancelo of course spent this past season on loan in Catalunya’s capital, from Manchester City.

Despite a series of high-profile errors late in the campaign, the understanding is that those in the boardroom at the Camp Nou were more than happy with the contributions offered by the Portuguese over the course of the campaign.

Deco and co, as a result, have long been actively working to bring Cancelo back to the club for the season ahead.

Another loan deal would be considered ideal, albeit with Man City understandably eager to part with their out-of-favour defender on a permanent basis.

So, in the case of the two sides being unable to find common ground, how do Barcelona intend to proceed?

As alluded to above, an insight into precisely that has tonight been provided.

The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Hansi Flick as being ready to turn towards the current options at his disposal:

‘The club sees Héctor Fort and Julián Araujo as ready. And, in any case, there is always the possibility of turning to Koundé, who once again showed a good level with France playing at right-back. Barça explains it this way.’
