Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has confirmed that his new-look goal celebration was intended as a tribute to former Blaugrana attacker Thierry Henry.

Wide-man Lamine is for his part of course fresh off another starring display on the international stage on Tuesday.

Afforded a starting berth in Spain’s Nations League meeting with Croatia, the 19-year-old proved himself the star of the show en route to a 4-1 La Roja triumph.

Lamine played a direct hand in three of the four goals netted by the reigning world champions, notching a brace alongside an assist for Marc Pubill.

And it was after his first goal of the evening, inside the two-minute mark, that the young winger paid tribute to the aforementioned Thierry Henry.

Wheeling away towards the touchline, Lamine leaned on the corner flag, a goal celebration previously made use of by Arsenal’s greatest-ever player.

Drawn on his pose post-match, the Ballon d’Or contender then went on to confirm:

“Thierry Henry is a reference! He has this legendary celebration and I wanted to do it.”
