La Masia has always been the pride of Barcelona, and once again, it has delivered a promising talent who looks set to make a name for himself in the first team.
Left-back Jofre Torrents is expected to enjoy a breakthrough campaign in the 2025/26 season, having already impressed Hansi Flick during the pre-season tour of Asia.
His strong performances did not go unnoticed, and Flick has been quick to recognise the youngster’s potential, opening the door for him to become an important figure in the senior squad.
Torrents first joined La Masia at the tender age of nine, growing up in the academy that has shaped countless stars before him. The player has always been aware that breaking through at Barcelona requires patience and hard work.
He understood that opportunities could take time, but as he himself admits, simply being part of the first-team dynamic was already a gift.
Yet, due to the complicated context around squad registrations, the 18-year-old suddenly found a golden chance to step up and join the squad for the league opener against Mallorca.
Even at this early stage, the defender has made his ambitions crystal clear. “My dream is to be Barça’s left-back — the club of my life,” he confessed while speaking to the club’s official channels (h/t SPORT).
Barcelona, as is tradition, paid tribute to Torrents, celebrating him as the eighth debutant of the Flick era and the first home-grown La Masia graduate to feature in the 2025/26 season.
For the youngster, the moment meant far more than simply getting minutes on the pitch. “After the game against Mallorca, I thought about everything that had happened, obviously, and I’m super happy.”
He was also quick to acknowledge the institution that shaped him into the player he is today. Speaking about La Masia, he shared his gratitude.
“They have always taken care of us, it is a centre that tries to give the best of itself so that young people are in the best possible conditions, and it is very good.”
On the pitch, Torrents has already started to define the qualities that set him apart. “An attacking full-back who likes to break lines in driving.
“Defensively, quite reliable and he always tries to give his best version and help the team,” is how he describes himself.
In many ways, his style mirrors the evolution of the modern full-back, adventurous going forward, but grounded with enough discipline to be trusted at the back. Like many La Masia talents, he grew up with role models within the club.
“When I was a child, I looked at Jordi Alb, and when I grew up, I looked at Alejandro Balde, who made his debut when I was a cadet,” he revealed, showing how two generations of Barcelona full-backs have directly influenced his own game.
