Santos produced a dismal performance in a 2-0 home defeat to Athletico-PR at Vila Belmiro on Sunday afternoon, slipping into the relegation zone on 22 points. According to Diario Do Peixe, Barreal was the one bright spot.
Early on, Barreal picked out Caballero with a fine pass and also tried his luck himself. Caballero had a good first-half opening and battled throughout.
Gabriel Menino sent in several crosses but most missed their target, while Gabriel Bontempo was anonymous in creation. Rollheiser struggled and little came off for him.
In midfield, Christian Oliva lost the ball in the move for the second goal and never got control. João Schmidt arrived late into too many challenges, and Adonis Frías was outmuscled by Viveros. João Ananias worked hard and avoided major errors.
Escobar was among the better performers, supplying the cross for Gabriel Barbosa’s best chance. Rony ran tirelessly but fired into a defender, and Gabriel Barbosa had one opening on the break without imposing himself.
Goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão was at fault for the second goal and looked uncertain coming off his line, including on a disallowed effort, though he did make reflex stops.
Thaciano and William Arão featured briefly and were not rated. Coach Cuca failed to neutralise Athletico-PR and his substitutions were judged poor.
