Under-fire Vasco midfielder Barros faces another suspension after a spate of cards in 2026, placing him under intense scrutiny. The youngster has become a lightning rod for criticism from supporters online.
He returned from a loan at América-MG to reinforce the holding role, yet has already collected three yellow cards and two straight reds. PaponaColina reports that those five sanctions have come across 13 appearances in 2026.
In the clássico against Flamengo he was sent off for an off-the-ball stamp on Carrascal, leaving Vasco with 10 for a long stretch. Flamengo won 1-0 and attempted 32 shots to Vasco’s one. Against Fluminense he conceded two penalties, resulting in a 1-1 draw that knocked Vasco out.
Later, after a heavy challenge on Cruzeiro midfielder Matheus Pereira, coach Renato Gaúcho downplayed the negative run. He characterised some mistakes as youthful and maintained Barros sought only a tactical foul, adding the red card was correct but without intent.
This latest ban rules Barros out of the next meeting with Fluminense, opening the door for the experienced Thiago Mendes to start in midfield. On social media, Barros accepted responsibility for his dismissal and spoke of learning from difficult moments to grow and honour the shirt.
