Barry Bannan has reacted to Sheffield Wednesday duo Henrik Pedersen and Jamal Lowe being nominated for the EFL League One Manager and Player of the Month awards respectively.

Henrik Pedersen has won four of the five opening games of the League One season, with a 1-0 defeat to Bradford City the only blemish on Sheffield Wednesday's record as they sit top of the league table.

In that time, Wednesday have scored 13 in their four other outings. Jamal Lowe has scored four and assisted one in that time. In terms of League One players, Jaze Kabia, Jack Marriott, Jack Diamond, Nahki Wells, Derensili Sanches Fernandes, and Aaron Collins also have five goal involvements but only one player has more.

Huddersfield Town's Joe Taylor has contributed to six goals and he has also been nominated for the award alongside Lowe. Meanwhile, Bradford City's Matt Pennington and Blackpool's Bailey Peacock-Farrell have joined the duo.

The EFL's official website also details Pedersen's nomination along with Ian Evatt of Blackpool, Martin Drury of Huddersfield Town, and Jim McNulty of Stockport County.

Sheffield Wednesday did their own reveal on Instagram, stating: "Henrik Pedersen and Jamal Lowe have been nominated for the EFL League One Manager and Player of the Month awards respectively 🦉"

Among those to have reacted to the post are Barry Bannan and Liam Cooper, with the duo liking Sheffield Wednesday's update on Lowe and Pedersen. Bannan also posted on his Instagram story, putting: "👏👏👏👏👏"

One of the most exciting things about Sheffield Wednesday's start to the season is that it is genuinely difficult to predict who will finish as their top scorer. Lowe has already shown his threat, while Louie Barry, Callum Slattery and others have also contributed, highlighting just how well the goals can be shared around this squad.

That is a hugely positive sign for Wednesday, because they do not need to rely on one player producing 20-plus goals. With Lowe, Barry, Ali Al-Hamadi, Davis Keillor-Dunn, and Burstow all capable of making an impact in League One, there are goals throughout the team.

Sheffield Wednesday's start to the season is becoming increasingly exciting, and even the significant injury blow suffered by Louie Barry has done little to dampen the optimism around Hillsborough.

Barry's absence will be felt, particularly after his encouraging start, but the Owls have assembled an impressive supporting cast around Bannan. Lowe, Slattery, Al-Hamadi, Keillor-Dunn, Billy Mitchell, Burstow and the hugely exciting Kieran Morrison provide Wednesday with genuine depth and variety.

Lowe has already shown his goalscoring threat, while the midfield options should give Bannan the control and protection needed to dictate games. With firepower throughout the side and plenty of quality in the middle of the pitch, there is every reason to believe Wednesday can sustain their momentum and mount a serious title charge.

Winning League One would be a fitting way to return this huge club to a division far more befitting of its size. That is the current trajectory, but they need to keep the points coming in a division that is stacked in terms of quality players and teams.
