Sheffield Wednesday rallied and came back from 2-0 down against Norwich City to draw 2-2 on Tuesday evening.

The Owls started the game incredibly poorly. They gave up plenty of chances to the promotion-hopefuls, and Norwich City looked to be cruising to a comfortable 2-0 win at Hillsborough.

Norwich had netted their brace of goals within the first 16 minutes of the match, through finishes from Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz, and it looked like it was going to be a long night for Danny Röhl's side.

The Canaries had chances to put the game even further out of their opposition's reach, but missed chances through Gabriel Sara and Ashley Barnes. However, all that was needed for the home side was a goal to turn the tide and swing the momentum of the game.

They eventually broke through, when a goal from defender Michael Ihiekwe with around 15 minutes to go in normal time was the catalyst for a frantic finish for the relegation-threatened Owls.

That moment heaped pressure from Wednesday, and Norwich weren't able to hold out for long enough. A front post header from Michael Smith then levelled the game to complete the fightback, and, ultimately, gave Wednesday a vital point in their survival hunt.

With the number of good chances that the Canaries created early on, Röhl will be delighted to have collected a potentially precious point from the game, and will be pleased at the way his side fought back.

Barry Bannan is the club captain at Hillsborough, and he has been a star player over the years, enjoying many highs and unfortunately enduring plenty of lows as well during his nine-year spell at Hillsborough.

Röhl’s appointment seems to suit Bannan’s style of play and be getting the most out of him, and he remains a highly influential figure on and off the pitch. The Scotsman is out of contract this summer, but focused on survival for now.

He took to Instagram to share his thoughts after the comeback draw from the Owls yesterday. Bannan said:

Championship relegation battle

The Owls are still yet to leave the bottom three for the first time this season, but they are getting closer by the game, having improved after an inspired appointment of Röhl and it has offered some hope.

Not only have performances undoubtedly improved under the tutelage of the German, with Wednesday clawing back plenty of points on the sides above them, but draw on Tuesday night took them to the highest that they have been in the league all season: 22nd.

Of their four remaining matches, their first half of them is certainly the easiest, on paper. They face two fellow relegation-threatened sides in Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers, with those games likely to be the most pivotal for a number of sides down the bottom, and not least with Wednesday.
