We’re seeing a few comments on Rangers legend Barry Ferguson purportedly becoming Ibrox manager Philippe Clement’s biggest cheerleader, and quite a lot of fans are not too happy with him for that.
Funnily enough, Barry Barry did the same with Michael Beale, he completely backed him all the way and it does call into question the man’s judgement in some senses.
We have a lot of time for Barry at Ibrox Noise. He’s an honest Rangers man, heart on his sleeve, and we don’t all have to agree to still have respect for one another.
And it must be remembered that until the Aberdeen result, 75% of Rangers fans backed Philippe Clement to the hilt, even taking into account the Killie shambles.
And up to the Parkhead loss, 93% of fans had still been behind him as well.
Nout as fickle as the football fan who changes their mind on the back of one result, is there?
Which is why we’re not going to slaughter Barry for backing Clement – 10% of Rangers fans still do, as tiny a minority as that is now.
They are all entitled to that view, even if they are abusive about it.
As far as Ibrox Noise is concerned, we’ve been onto Clement ever since his second match v Hearts (and post-match nonsense) and the 3-3 at Ibrox sealed it for us.
We’ve been opposed to him ever since, taking all kinds of abuse in the course of that, but hey, that’s the price of honesty, and sadly, most fans now accept he’s the wrong man.
But Barry taking his side is fair – some ex-Rangers men like to support those in post at Ibrox, and it must be remembered the tribal backing Clement used to enjoy only stopped recently – and Barry’s just in that 10% who stand by it.
He, like the rest of us, wants the best for our club.
That clearly isn’t Clement, he doesn’t have a clue what he is doing, and hasn’t since he joined. He’s winged it as much as Beale did, probably worse because he looked like such a straight shooter.
But Barry’s entitled to think Clement is still the right man if he wants.
It’s just abundantly clear that view is wrong.
