Everton extended their unbeaten Premier League start with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over 10-man Ipswich Town at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The hosts made a bright start and took the lead after 11 minutes, although there was an element of fortune about the opener. James Tarkowski’s long-range volley struck Thierno Barry, who reacted quickly to divert the ball beyond Christian Walton for his fifth goal of the season.

Ipswich responded well and created several opportunities before the interval. Abdul Fatawu tested Jordan Pickford from a tight angle, while Leif Davis was unable to find the target from a promising position. Barry then missed a chance to double Everton’s advantage, heading wide from Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ cross.

The visitors continued to threaten after the restart, with Pickford denying Julio Enciso and Abdoul Ouattara. Everton thought they had added a second when Barry headed home from a corner, but VAR ruled the goal out after Brennan Johnson was judged to have interfered with Walton from an offside position.
