RB Salzburg midfielder Bartozs Mazurek says he came close to joining Benfica during this window while at Jagiellonia, where he shared a dressing room with Porto winger Oskar Pietuszewski.
"Yes, there were other possibilities. Benfica was one of them. But after good talks, I quickly decided on Salzburg," he told Polish outlet Stolica Sportu.
"The talks were very positive. I was fully informed about the opportunities I would have at Salzburg and about the club's plans for me. I also know that players like Haaland, Szoboszlai and Adeyemi have played here. As all of this fits perfectly, I decided to move to Salzburg with complete confidence."
The Polish teenager, born in 2007 and developed at Jagiellonia Bialystok, rose through the under-17s before debuting for the first team and the B side in 2024/25 and 2025/26.
Last season for Jagiellonia Bialystok, Mazurek, valued at four point five million euros, made 36 appearances across 2,157 minutes, scoring five and supplying two assists.
