Suffering a 2-0 defeat in Heraklion, TSG Hoffenheim's Oliver Baumann confessed OFI Crete had the greater hunger on the night.

“We expected Crete to play exactly like that. I don’t think we played a bad game overall," Baumann said in his post match interview.

"We put them under a lot of pressure and created chances. But at the crucial moments, you got the feeling that they wanted it more.

"We had far more shots on goal, but Crete defended with great passion and were very effective. They sat very deep and did that well.

“On top of that, they were very dangerous up front. We’d imagined things would go differently,” he added.

Ultimately, the veteran goalkeeper refrained from making excuses, stating Ilzer's side wouldn't have found the back of the net.

"It felt as though we could have carried on playing for hours without being rewarded. We need to learn from this straight away.

"Situations like this will crop up time and again. We lacked that final bit of determination and clinical finishing.

“We mustn’t let minor incidents rattle us. It’s a bitter pill to swallow for us,” he concluded, as focus now turns to SC Paderborn on Sunday.
