Bayer Leverkusen defender ruled out for several weeks

Bayer Leverkusen have issued an update on Lucas Vázquez after the Spanish defender was forced off during Tuesday’s 0–0 draw with Olympiacos in the Champions League.

The Bundesliga outfit confirmed on Friday morning that Vázquez has sustained a calf injury.

As a result, the 33-year-old is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

The timing is far from ideal for Leverkusen, who face a demanding stretch of three matches in seven days, with matches against Mainz, Hamburger SV and Freiburg coming up.
