Bayer Leverkusen have announced that Florian Wirtz will miss the foreseeable future with a capsule injury he picked up in Germany’s 1-0 win against the Netherlands.

Wirtz came off at halftime of the game in Munich and was replaced by Leverkusen teammate Robert Andrich. At the end of the game, Nagelsmann provided an update on the forward, but the seriousness of the injury was still unknown.

Now, it is revealed that Wirtz has picked up a capsule injury in his ankle and the length of his absence for Leverkusen is currently unknown.

The 21-year-old has been Leverkusen’s best player this season scoring four and assisting once in six Bundesliga games. The absence of Wirtz will be a big loss for Die Werkself as they have struggled to match their levels of last season in the opening games of this campaign. Jonas Hofmann, Amine Adli and Martin Terrier will all be able to provide cover for the reigning Bundesliga player of the season.

Leverkusen’s next game is a big one as they host early Bundesliga high-flyers Eintracht Frankfurt, who proved a tough challenge for Bayern Munich just before the international break.
