Bayern Munich start their preseason with a win over Ligue 1 club Lyon. Vincent Kompany started the game with three youngsters in Tom Bischof, Lennart Karl and Paul Wanner, while Kim Min-Jae made his return from injury.

Karl had Bayern’s best chance in the first-half when his volley narrowly missed the target after good combination play on the left between Kingsley Coman and Raphel Guerriero. Manuel Neuer made a couple of saves as Lyon grew into the game after the midpoint of the half.

Kompany changed the entire lineup at the break with Luis Diaz entering for his appearance at the Allianz Arena. The Colombian had a great chance to score two minutes into his debut. Five minutes later, he won a penalty after a challenge by Clinton Mata when Diaz tried to reach Joshua Kimmich’s delivery.

Michael Olise scored from the resulting penalty-kick. The Frenchman had chances before scoring his second goal with a calm finish after Serge Gnabry’s through pass. OL felt undone by both goals as Diaz was in an offside position for the first, and there was a foul in the buildup to the second goal.

Olise was also involved in Lyon’s goal scored by Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez as the move started when his pass to Kimmich was intercepted in the middle of the pitch. There were signs for Lyon’s improvement before their goal as Jonas Urbig made a great save from Sael Kumbedi before Georges Mikautadze hit the woodwork.

Diaz also had two more chances to score his first Bayern goal as he played with his usual intensity on the left wing. Bayern will continue their preparation with a game against Tottenham Hotspur next Thursday.
