Bayern boss hits back at Kahn over Musiala World Cup comments | OneFootball

Former Germany and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn recently made headlines after advising Jamal Musiala to skip the World Cup as the 23-year-old continues his recovery and search for top form following a long injury layoff.

Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl has now responded to Kahn’s comments, making it clear that he disagrees.

“Honestly, I believe that anyone who competes in professional sport can't be told to stay at home when the biggest events come around,” Eberl told Sky Germany.

“Jamal is on a journey that takes time. We all saw the injury – it was very, very complex and also had after-effects. We knew that recovery would take a long time, both physically and mentally, especially when it comes to being able to step onto the pitch without any worries again,” he continued.

“These are processes he has to go through, and that’s what he’s doing now. The moment will come when something extraordinary happens on the pitch – and then the knot will come undone.”

The 52-year-old went on to point out that Musiala can still play an important role for Germany at the World Cup, even if he is not a guaranteed starter.

“I’m sure that Jamal will be very valuable to us at the World Cup if he is reasonably fit. If he’s in form, he’s important. And even if he’s not at 100 percent, you’re still happy to have him on the bench to create special moments.”
