Bayern come away empty-handed! Desired player Gordon moves to Barcelona

FC Bayern have apparently come up empty-handed in their pursuit of Anthony Gordon, with several transfer insiders reporting that the England international’s move to FC Barcelona is imminent

In recent weeks, the record champions have been considered one of the hottest candidates to sign the 25-year-old, with the Munich club sometimes even considered the favorites in the bidding for the Newcastle United attacker

However, this apparently came to nothing

As reported by Sky, FC Barcelona and Newcastle United have agreed on a transfer, with transfer insider Florian Plettenberg already speaking of a „done deal“

Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed the agreement between all parties, according to which the Catalans will pay around 80 million euros plus bonuses for the winger

Anthony Gordon himself is said to have already given his final commitment to Barca. According to reports, the obligatory medical check will take place later this week

Serious setback for FC Bayern

For FC Bayern, the failed deal is a severe setback on the transfer market

Gordon was regarded internally as an absolute dream player for the offense. Max Eberl in particular had made intensive efforts to acquire the England international. Just a few days ago, Bayern’s sporting director even publicly confirmed that talks had already taken place

„We are in agreement that we will sign an attacking player if he can be financed. We have had very good talks and hope that we can move forward,“ Eberl explained

Apparently, Barcelona were still able to convince in the end

Bayern must reorient themselves

Munich’s focus is now likely to turn to alternative candidates

Dusan Vlahovic and other attacking players from the Premier League have recently been linked with the German record champions, but it is clear that it will be difficult to replace a player with Gordon’s profile and pace on a one-to-one basis

Particularly bitter from Bayern’s point of view: according to media reports, Gordon himself was basically open to a move to the Isar, but in the end the agreement between Barcelona and Newcastle is said to have tipped the scales

For Max Eberl, the failed transfer is the next setback in an already complicated summer of transfers.
