Bayern could move for 24y/o defender under one condition | OneFootball

Bayern Munich are still interested in Benfica defender Tomas Araujo, and could consider a move for him in the future. 

The Bavarian giants signed Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari during the summer window, and they showed no further inclination to bolster their squad.

Bayern were open to selling the likes of Kim Min-jae and Hiroki Ito.

If they were successful in offloading either of them or both, they probably would have gone after a new defender, and Araujo could have been an option for them.

Tomas Araujo: Bayern Munich still interested

Araujo has progressed through the youth ranks at Benfica, and made his senior debut in 2021.

The 24-year-old has made 105 appearances for the Portuguese giants, and has six caps for the Portuguese national team as well.

Primarily a central defender, Araujo can play as a right-back. Vincent Kompany loves players who can play in multiple positions, and therefore, Araujo is always highly liked by the club.

The defender has signed a contract extension at Benfica until 2031, but we all know, they are a selling club, and would be open to offloading players at the right price.

Christian Falk has exclusively told CFBayern Insider that Bayern could consider a move for Araujo if Kim Min-jae is sold.

Falk said: “It is TRUE: Bayern Munich know Tomás Araújo very well. He’s been on the shortlist at FC Bayern for a very long time and would be one of the players to keep an eye on if they look to get someone new in.

“At the moment, Min-jae Kim is doing very well as a rotational option alongside Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano. So, he’s performing the best he ever has as a Bayern Munich player. Of course, this simultaneously means he’s one of the players Bayern can earn money from.

“This is why Araújo could be one of the players they look to buy if Kim is sold. But as I mentioned, at the moment, the first question to answer is whether or not Min-jae Kim has a future. If not, Bayern Munich will look at their list.”

We reported that Min-jae has continue with Bayern for more years to come.

Bayern are happy with his contributions and there are high chances that he could be given a new deal at the club.

Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan are vying for his signature, and an exit from Allianz Arena cannot be completely ruled out.
