The Bavarian giants could face competition from Premier League heavyweights Manchester City, who are also expected to enter the market for a new right-back next summer.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been heavily linked with a move for Tino Livramento, while Read could represent a cheaper alternative.

Do Bayern need a new right-back?

Many felt last summer that Max Eberl failed miserably in the summer transfer window, particularly as Bayern struggled to land several of their primary targets.

However, the signing of Luis Diaz has proved to be a masterstroke, while the loan arrival of Nicolas Jackson has also been a sensible piece of business that should not hurt the club financially. Likewise, Tom Bischof’s arrival on a free transfer has been viewed as an excellent addition.

Strengthening the full-back areas could therefore become a priority for Bayern in the upcoming summer window.

Konrad Laimer currently remains the club’s first-choice right-back, while Bayern are also keen to tie him down to a new contract.

Sacha Boey, meanwhile, joined Galatasaray on loan during the January window and could be sold permanently in the summer after failing to convince Vincent Kompany.

Josip Stanisic provides another versatile option for Kompany, although Bayern still feel the need to bring in another right-back capable of competing for a starting place.

Givairo Read: Can Bayern win the race to sign the Dutchman?

The 19-year-old has impressed greatly for Feyenoord this season, attracting interest from several top European clubs.

Bayern reportedly have a “good feeling” that they can secure his signature, although the Bavarian giants are not prepared to overspend. They would ideally like to conclude a deal worth around £26m, including add-ons.

However, if wealthy Premier League clubs enter the race and drive up the price, Bayern would most likely look to explore alternative options.

“It is NOT TRUE: Givairo Read has become too expensive a potential signing for Bayern MunichBayern feel they can sign the player if they want to. Of course, you never know which clubs will rear their heads from the Premier League and offer, from a German perspective, some crazy prices. So Bayern Munich won’t pay, say, €60m [£52.1m] for a right-back. They think they can get him for €30m [£26m] with add-ons – that’s absolutely a discussion the club is happy to have. But this is the range Bayern Munich would like to pay, and it matches the right-back’s market price. Of course, the market can have other ideas, and the Premier League can also influence the asking price! But for the time being, Bayern have a very good feeling that they can sign Read this summer.”
