FC Bayern wins 2-0 at home against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League. The Bayern stars in the FCBinside individual review.

Manuel Neuer: Made a brilliant save in the first half against David, who was very alone from close range. Otherwise, the Bayern captain had nothing to do, but this reflex was top. Grade: 2

Raphael Guerreiro: Took on the role of right-back. Acted very confidently on the ball and played well offensively with Olise. Guerreiro had a header chance at the end of the first half after a Kimmich corner, but put the ball over the goal. Very decent game from the FCB all-rounder. Grade: 3

Minaje Kim: Deputised for Upamecano, who was absent due to illness. Kim was initially attentive and strong in tackles. Actually a decent game from the South Korean – until he was sent off after around an hour. If he’s already been booked, he has to be more careful in his tackling. Grade: 4

Jonathan Tah: Played very solidly, but was not really challenged by the Belgian attack. 3

Tom Bischof: Helped out on the left side of defence this time rather than on the right as he did in Leipzig. He did better there than against RB. Bischof was a little too far away from the man in a few scenes, but was otherwise secure on the ball and very committed. Mark: 3

Joshua Kimmich: Kompany brought Kimmich into the center of midfield despite the shortage of right-backs, where the national team captain took control again – but without the big highlights. Grade: 3

Aleksandar Pavlovic: Convinced with good positioning and was always ready to play in Bayern’s build-up play. 3

Michael Olise: Was already Bayern’s most active attacking player in the first half. In the second half, Olise immediately scored an assist with a corner to Kane to make it 1-0. Before the penalty to make it 2-0, Olise played a superb pass into the deep to Kane. In the closing stages, the Frenchman put a shot wide of the target when quite alone in front of goal. Overall, however, a strong game from Olise. Grade: 2

Lennart Karl: The youngster struggled against the Belgians. He was pretty much out of the picture and didn’t get involved in any dangerous actions. Mark: 4

Luis Diaz : Hardly made any impact. He fought and was on the move a lot, but didn’t create any danger offensively. Olise put a good pass from him over the top. Otherwise, there wasn’t much from Diaz. Mark: 4

Harry Kane: Failed to score from close range right at the start against keeper Scherpen. Otherwise, Kane was hardly seen in the first half. But quickly – and even twice – after the start of the second half: First, the Englishman headed the 1-0 after an Olise corner. Shortly afterwards, he ran alone towards goalkeeper Scherpen after a great pass from Olise into the deep. He straddled him in the penalty area. Kane converted the penalty safely and thus tied up his brace. Kane then shot a penalty against the crossbar and thus missed the hat-trick – and the 1st goal. Nevertheless, Kane was the match winner. Grade: 2

Substitute

Hitoki Ito (67th for Karl): Took over Kim’s position in central defense after he was sent off. Played the game flawlessly to the end. Grade: 3

Alphonso Davies (67 for Guerreiro): Took over at left-back after coming on as a substitute. Concentrated on defending and had everything under control. Grade: 3

Serge Gnabry (90th for Olise): Came on too late to score

Leon Goretzka (90th for Kimmich): Came on too late to score
