Benfica target João Palhinha was left out of another Bayern Munich friendly, this time against Heidenheim, as pre-season continues. According to Glorioso 1904, the 31-year-old remained out while speculation over his future grows.

He had already watched from the stands against RB Leipzig. Sporting director Max Eberl said negotiations are under way that could lead to a transfer in some form, so Bayern did not want to take risks.

Newcastle and Aston Villa are among the clubs interested, with Benfica also pushing to bring the midfielder back to the Luz.

Benfica have proposed €2.5 million net per season plus a significant signing-on bonus. The club already have an understanding with Palhinha on the framework of a move and have set their salary offer.

Though still tied to Bayern, Palhinha's wish to return could be pivotal, and the next talks with the German club will be decisive. Benfica are working to persuade Bayern and hope the player's preference outweighs Premier League spending power. A return remains under discussion.
