The Munich offense is shining with new faces – one in particular is causing a stir. Now Bayern icon Thomas Müller is also speaking out and has clear words for Lennart Karl

Lennart Karl is playing his way deeper into the hearts of Bayern fans with every appearance – and has also made an impression on club icon Thomas Müller. In an interview with RTL/ntv, the long-time FCB star had words of praise for the 17-year-old attacker: „Lennart Karl is currently playing refreshingly, scoring goals and making important moves. You can see he’s having fun working to improve and at the same time enjoying the game. Getting better is one thing, not being too dogged is another. I think they’ve found a good mix.“

The 36-year-old’s advice comes at the right time: Karl is on a rapid rise. He recently scored again in the Champions League against FC Arsenal , setting a historic record – no player has ever been younger than he was when he scored in each of his first two Champions League games. At 17 years and 277 days, he made European soccer history.

Karl was once again an asset in the 1:3 in London. The U21 international was courageous, technically strong and fast-paced – virtues that have helped him mature into a permanent fixture under Vincent Kompany. This season, he already has 13 competitive games, four goals and two assists to his name – a figure that has long since shown the left-footer to be more than just a prospect.

Off the pitch, too, the youngster is focused and stable – qualities that Müller clearly appreciates. His message to the up-and-coming star is clear: stay relaxed, despite the hype.

Although Müller is now under contract with Vancouver Whitecaps, he continues to follow events at Säbener Straße with great interest. „The team is in a very good position and the coaching team around Vincent Kompany is doing an excellent job. It’s fun to watch the team,“ explained the 2014 world champion later in the interview.

The attacking player is able to follow Champions League matches at least in part due to the time difference – and is well informed. He should be particularly pleased with the meteoric rise of a young colleague like Lennart Karl.
