Bayern Munich are not currently looking to make a move on Florian Wirtz.

The Germany international has been tentatively linked with the exit door at Liverpool in light of a mixed spell with the Anfield club following his move in 2025.

However, Christian Falk reports that though the Bavarian giants remain admirers, Vincent Kompany’s men have a perfectly suitable squad.

Bayern would be open to Florian Wirtz transfer

We can appreciate that Bayern aren’t actively working on a deal for Florian Wirtz – and Liverpool have no interest in selling. Of course, we can simultaneously agree that were the playmaker to become available on the market, this is a conversation FC Bayern would have to involve themselves in.

Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider: “Of course, if Florian Wirtz were, at some point in future, interested in making a return to the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich would be the first team he’d talk to.

“However, there is nothing planned. Bayern have a big squad and everyone’s feeling really confident. Musiala has a long contract and don’t forget that Vincent Kompany is trying a new system with Michael Olise as the fulcrum in the centre – the same position he currently plays in for the French national team.

“So, FC Bayern have a lot of options. Don’t forget, either, that it was a lot of money Liverpool paid for Wirtz.”

There is certainly always a willingness to break the bank in Munich when a player of a certain calibre becomes available and there is a clear squad need.

Bayern Munich proved as much with their successful pursuit of former Tottenham striker Harry Kane, who signed in an initial €100m (£86.4m) deal in 2023.

Again, two years later, the Bundesliga outfit was prepared to commit a vast sum of money for the potential signing of Wirtz – only to be beaten to the punch by Arne Slot’s Liverpool.

Perhaps this is one story to keep an eye on while question marks (at least, from the perspective of English media) persist over the 23-year-old.

Less running, more creating for Wirtz at Liverpool

It feels like a lot of Florian Wirtz’s problems at Liverpool (if they can be described as such) boil down to the wrong expectations being placed on the No.7.

Should Liverpool’s most creative midfielder be covering more ground on average than Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister?

Now, there’s a clear distinction here between working hard as part of a press-heavy team under Andoni Iraola and covering for deficiencies elsewhere in the squad.

While there’ll be a clear expectation for Wirtz to work hard, it shouldn’t come at the cost of his creative capabilities.

This is a footballer who, when fully unleashed, can change the course of a football match at the drop of a hat. If Liverpool can’t find a way to make that happen without upsetting the balance of the side, perhaps a return to Germany may yet be on the cards.
