Bayern Munich could have signed Luka Vušković for only £2.6m in 2023, reports Christian Falk.

The reigning Bundesliga champions could have snapped up the ‘monster’ (GOAL) centre-back for as little as €5m [£4.3m] as far as the total package was concerned.
“It is TRUE: Bayern could have secured Luka Vušković for a bargain fee. He was offered to Bayern when he was about 15 years old in February 2023,” Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.
“There was an option to buy him for €3m [£2.6m] from Hajduk Split, then maybe €2m [£1.7m] in add-ons. But Bayern wasn’t so sure if the risk was worth it for the talent at that stage.
“Many clubs were at the table; Real Madrid, I heard, were willing to pay €12m [£10.4m] at this point. But in the end, the race was decided by Tottenham, who paid €15m [£13m]. A lot of money! Too much for a German club to pay for a young talent.
“But in the end, when they know how he’s turned out, and everyone is saying Vušković is playing very well, it’s only natural there’s a little bit of regret.”
That initial figure (€3m) has gone up considerably since 2023, with Transfermarkt now estimating Vušković’s value at €40m [£34.7m]. However, even this may be a conservative figure for an 18-year-old, highly valued Premier League talent.
Assuming this was the go-to figure this summer, that would mean the teenager’s asking price has risen by 1234.6%.
At least Bayern are only talking about a potential eight-figure fee!
By Fotmob’s rankings, Vušković has been Hamburg’s second-highest performing player this term with a score of 7.22/10.
The immediate attraction for both Bayern and Premier League operators will have to be the centre-half’s remarkable aerial prowess for a teenager.

At 18 years of age, he boasts one of the highest aerial duel win rates in all of Europe, whilst also appearing to be a remarkably capable duelist on the ground.
Perhaps decision-makers at Säbener Straße might fairly argue the greater mistake was made by Tottenham boss Thomas Frank, allowing the footballer to leave on loan!

Either way, a potential rise in value doesn’t appear to have put off Bayern Munich.
In fact, the club is now understood to be holding talks with Luka Vušković’s agent, Pini Zahavi.
“This is why Bayern are again in talks with the Tottenham loanee’s agent, Pini Zahavi, who’s living in London,” Christian Falk went on to add.
“Everyone will be more than aware of the fact that he’s one of the top agents in Europe.
“Very interestingly, Bayern Munich centre-back Jonathan Tah is also a client of Zahavi’s, and he recently spoke out about Luka Vušković being a great talent and that his development puts him in line for a move to a top club, and that he’s in contact with the Croatian defender.
“If the two share the same agency, and Tah knows who he is, I think you can put two and two together.”
FC Bayern will have to get to grips with the fact that the defender is no longer available for a bargain fee.
But if they can manage to get over this disappointment, they do appear to have at least one advantage in any potential race for the player’s signature in the summer.
