Bayern Munich maintained their perfect start to the 2025-26 Bundesliga season after beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Harry Kane scored his 12th goal of the season, while Michael Olise added another as Bayern picked up all three points against the potential title challengers.

Dortmund improved after the break and pulled one goal in the 84th minute to make it a tense game in the end. However, Bayern ensured they left the pitch with another win.

Bayern make record start

In the Bundesliga’s history, Bayern have won their opening seven games in a row four times, but under Vincent Kompany, they have set a new record, scoring 27 goals and conceding just four.

In the first half, Dortmund failed to register a single shot, while Bayern could have easily scored three or four to kill the game. The trio of Harry Kane, Luis Diaz, and Michael Olise were on a different level, and Dortmund had no answer to Bayern’s threat.

In the second half, Dortmund played with greater intent and created several fantastic opportunities. However, poor finishing has let them down.

While Dortmund did manage a late goal (more on that later), Bayern’s defence stayed resolute to see off the challenge.

Can Kane break Lewandowski’s record

Kane is enjoying the form of his life. The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has produced another stellar performance, scoring in seven consecutive games.

Gerd Müller scored 40 goals in the 1971/72 season. Robert Lewandowski broke that record with virtually the last kick of the 2020/21 season, managing 41 goals.

Unless Kane gets injured or sees a massive dip in form, he is most likely to break the record this season. He is happy at the German club and has hinted that he will extend his contract as well.

Jackson painful to watch

Nicolas Jackson started against Dortmund and was taken off at the hour mark. Let the stats speak for themselves – 26 touches, zero shots on goal, 13 accurate passes.

Bayern paid a big fee to sign him on loan from Chelsea, and there are even suggestions that he could be signed permanently next summer. Jackson can forget about securing a permanent move to Bayern, unless he improves rapidly.

Is contract stagnation affecting Upamecano?

Dayot Upamecano has been rock solid at the back for Bayern this season. He looked superb at times against Dortmund, but also could have defended better on a few occasions.

Felix Nmecha got the better of him and nearly scored a goal with a header, while he was unable to prevent the cross or mark Julian Brandt that led to the goal.

In recent weeks, his contract situation has become a big talking point. He is apparently asking for a sign-on fee that Bayern are refusing to meet, and it is unclear whether he will sign a new deal or leave the club for free next summer.

Pavlovic ready for big games

Leon Goretzka was dropped to the bench, and Kompany started with Aleksandar Pavlovic.

Alongside Joshua Kimmich, the 21-year-old produced another superb performance.

Pavlovic was strong physically, kept possession, played out smart passes, and above all, sent a message that he is now ready to play big games.
