Bayern Munich’s supervisory board are prepared to fully back Max Eberl in the club’s pursuit of Anthony Gordon this summer, reports Christian Falk.

However, there is still an expectation for the director of sport to make the conditions around a deal more favourable.

The England international is understood to be valued in the region of £75m.

Gordon remains at the top of the transfer agenda for FC Bayern heading into the summer transfer window.

“So came the day when Max Eberl had to present his plans for the upcoming summer transfer window. The big plan, as will come as no surprise given how much we’ve talked about him, is Anthony Gordon,” Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.

“The big question was whether or not the supervisory board would be prepared to go full throttle for the Englishman and help Eberl pay the money Newcastle are looking for. The answer was yes; the supervisory board will be backing Eberl, but he has to bring the price down a little.”

However, the Bavarian giants will not be prepared to meet Newcastle where they are.

A reasonable position to take, given we can already accept that the Newcastle wide man will not be a guaranteed starter for Vincent Kompany’s men next term.

Bayern have already offered Gordon terms

Per our prior reporting, Anthony Gordon has already been offered a five-year deal with the Bundesliga giants.

As things currently stand, Bayern are still over £20m away from what the Magpies are looking for.

“My colleague, Ben Jacobs, has now also confirmed that there is an agreement with the player, and the fee is looking closer to £75m [€86.5m]. It’s a little less than the £80m we discussed previously, but it’s still too much for Bayern Munich,” Christian Falk continued.

“This will be the key point now. Max Eberl has to bring the transfer fee closer to what Bayern are prepared to pay. At the beginning, they were thinking of €60m [£51.9m], but that won’t be enough.

“Perhaps they could make things work with add-ons attached or by spreading out the transfer over a number of years.

“Regardless, the big decision was that Bayern will go for Anthony Gordon. They want him this summer. If it works, perhaps they won’t need additional transfers.”

This could be a make-or-break issue for Max Eberl, certainly so given that it could impact subsequent business the club would like to conduct this summer.

For instance, there’s still the ongoing question of the right-back position. Though Konrad Laimer has proven to be a more than astute option, nothing demonstrated the gap between PSG and Bayern more than the availability of arguably the world’s leading right-back, Achraf Hakimi.

Depth, likewise, was a noticeable concern for Kompany’s side. In that respect, Gordon would have been a much-welcome solution at a time when Serge Gnabry was out injured, and both Lennart Karl and Jamal Musiala themselves are still recovering.

Bayern Munich and Max Eberl have a lot of work to do this summer.

And they won’t be able to simply blitz the window to make that next crucial leap forward.
