The 25-year-old is a versatile defender who can play across all positions at the back.

This season, he has been used as a right-back, centre-back, and left-back.

The defender has made 11 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

Stanisic has also made four Champions League starts, which shows he is an important player for Vincent Kompany’s side.

The defender picked up an injury towards the end of the game, and it appears to be serious.

Bayern confirmed on their website that the defender sustained a capsular ligament injury in his right ankle against Wolfsburg. The diagnosis was confirmed by the club’s medical department.

Christian Falk told CFBayern that the defender is expected to be out of action for around three weeks.

Earlier this season, Stanisic suffered an internal ligament injury and missed many games. Bayern will play seven games in their next 21 games, and Stanisic is likely to miss a lot of those.

Options for Kompany

Despite Stanisic’s injury, Sacha Boey’s future remains uncertain. The right-back is likely to be sold during the January transfer window, and there is no future for him at Bayern.

Kompany has Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito as two options for the left-back role, while Tom Bischof can also play there.

Bayern will also be without Joshua Kimmich for the next game against Koln on Wednesday.

The midfielder missed the previous two games with an ankle injury, and while he has taken training, the club are unlikely to risk him for the next game.
