Real Madrid plan to enter the market for a new centre-back in the summer of 2026, as the club prepare to move on from David Alaba, and possibly even Antonio Rudiger.
The idea at Valdebebas is to sign a top replacement without spending big, and to that end, the Merengues have identified some potential targets on expiring contracts at the end of the season.
The French duo of Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool) and Dayot Upamecano (Bayern Munich) are among the names being considered.
Another soon-to-be free agent that Real Madrid are taking a close look at is Crystal Palace and England centre-back Marc Guehi.
However, there is huge competition for the services of Guehi, as other top clubs like Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and even Barcelona are in the race.
In fact, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich have already their first move in an attempt to lure Guehi to the Allianz Arena.

Indeed, the Bavarians’ sporting director, Max Eberl, has held a meeting with the England international’s agent, Gordon Stipic, in recent days to explore the possibility of a free transfer in the summer.
The Bundesliga champions see the 25-year-old Crystal Palace star as one of their main targets to reinforce the defensive line in case Upamecano leaves as a free agent or Kim Min-jae is sold.
As such, meetings have taken place between the Bayern director and Guehi’s agent in recent days.
Real Madrid will need to act swiftly if they are serious about signing Guehi to strengthen their rearguard before the start of the next season.
At 25, the former Chelsea man can prove to be an excellent long-term addition for Los Blancos, given his proven pedigree in the Premier League. But with Bayern moving fast, the Spanish giants will need to accelerate things.
