On Saturday afternoon, Bayern Munich returned to Bundesliga action, after their disappointing Champions League adventure in midweek. Their misery was compounded by the fact that Alphonso Davies picked up an injury that will keep him sidelined for the time being.

For the game, Vincent Kompany opted for a line up of; Neuer - Kimmich, Dier, Kim, Guerreiro - Pavlovic, Goretzka - Sane, Musiala, Gnabry - Kane. Dayot Upamecano missed the game with a precautionary knock.

Bayern Munich get much needed narrow win against Freiburg

It was a pretty tight start to proceedings, with Bayern taking 13 minutes to have a shot of any note. After one of his signature carries into space, Musiala struck the ball from the edge of the box, but it cannoned off the post.

Two minutes later, Bayern had the lead. After a cross into the box was cleared, Bayern recycled the ball, before feeding Harry Kane on the edge of the box. The England captain turned magnificently, before putting his foot through the ball and lacing it into the bottom corner from a slight angle. It was a well-taken goal.

Five minutes before the break, Leon Goretzka had to be withdrawn through injury and was replaced by Josip Stanisic, with Joshua Kimmich moving into midfield.

Ten minutes into the second half, Bayern got their second goal. Kim Min-jae met an inswinging corner from Kimmich at the near post, who glanced a header home. There was a check for a foul on the keeper, but the goal was eventually given.

Just after the hour mark, Michael Olise and Kingsley Coman replaced Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane. Five minutes later, Freiburg got one back from a corner. Once again, there are worrying signs defensively from Bayern.

With seven minutes of normal time remaining, Thomas Muller and Joao Palhinha replaced Musiala and Guerreiro. After over five minutes of stoppage time, the referee finally blew for full-time.

Bayern would pick up their fifth Bundesliga win in a row, and their fourth out of four since the restart. To make things even better, Bayer Leverkusen dropped points late on away to RB Leipzig, giving Bayern a lead of six points at the top of the table.
