Vincent Kompany and his Bayern Munich side got off to a great start in the Champions League with a 3-1 win over Chelsea at home. The side have also been in imperious form in the Bundesliga with three wins from three, with a ridiculous 14 goals scored and just two conceded. They look set to defend their title again this season.

However, Kompany’s boyhood club and previous employers Anderlecht are not in the same situation. While Kompany may be focused on Bayern Munich, he still has an eye on what is going on in Brussels. After the game he was asked by HLN about his former side. Kompany said ‘Anderlecht will be back at the top sooner or later’. At the moment, it feels more like later than sooner. The side missed out on European football and have since had to sell key players like Kasper Dolberg. They did battle to a 1-1 draw at the weekend against Genk, with the side being down to 10 men for most of the game. Another former Anderlecht favourite and childhood fan Romelu Lukaku was in the crowd.

Kompany also said he didn’t want to make too many comments about his former club. The former Manchester City defender said ‘In difficult times, I’m just a supporter. Sometimes you shouldn’t give too many opinions’.

Anderlecht face Antwerp on Saturday evening.
