FC Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany saw no need to conduct a post match press conference yesterday. The Bundesliga title already having long been secured, Kompany had nothing to add after a 0-4 away win at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on the season’s final matchday. Kompany and the press officer at the PreZero Arena did show up in the press room, but showed little-no-interest in proceeding with the formality.
Kompany was brought into the room early whilst TSG head coach Christian Ilzer, the Hoffenheim front office managerial representatives, and most of the journalists weren’t ready to join. The press officer made clear that he wanted to get Kompany in, out, and on his way quickly.
“We’re joining to separate the press conference today so that we can all go home,” the press officer began. “Thanks for your understanding and thanks for coming. I’ll ask for the first questions for our head coach. Whoever wishes to begin can raise their hand and take the microphone.”
Kompany wasn’t prepared to let it go that far.
“I’m not expecting any questions,” Kompany remarked with a snarky smirk. “Since we just won 4-0.“
“Yes there’s been a bit of a logjam [of people getting into the room],” the press officer then went on to say as no one seemed interested in raising their hands. “Maybe we’ll give it a few more seconds, or just take photos today?“
Kompany gave it all of 0.2 seconds.
“Cheers,” Kompany said raising a glass of water and getting up. “Thanks to the lads!”
