With winter transfer window just over a month away, the future of Alphonso Davies at Bayern Munich is a big topic of discussion in Germany and Europe. The Canadian has less then eight months left on his contract.
AC Milan’s Theo Hernández and RB Leipzig's David Raum are the two names being discussed internally at Bayern as the potential replacement for Alphonso Davies, should the Canadian leave the club on a free transfer next summer.
Contract extension talks between Bayern and Davies have been at a standstill for a long time now. The sticking point between the two parties has been the subject of wages demanded by the left-back's camp. If an agreement isn't found soon, Bayern will risk losing the full-back for free in the summer. The player will be free to hold talks with interested clubs from January if a contract extension isn't signed by then.
Meanwhile, Bayern has already begun sounding out the left-back market for a potential signing next summer in case the Canadian departs.
According to SportBild (via @iMiaSanMia) the biggest name on Bayern’s list of left-back candidates is Theo Hernández, who currently plays for AC Milan. Sporting Director Max Eberl is convinced of the player, having been interested in signing him since last summer.
The French international’s contract with the Rossoneri runs until 2026, which suggests he would likely be available for a cheap price next summer. His transfer value is expected to be around €60m, a significant reduction from the €100m figure appraised by Milan last summer.
The 27-year-old is regarded as one of the best full-backs in the world and would be as good a replacement for Alphonso Davies as Bayern can possibly get. However, it is still to see if the club would be willing to shell out a massive fee for the fullback when they are already planning to spend nearly €100m on Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz.
As per SportBild's report, RB Leipzig’s David Raum is another name being considered by FC Bayern. A big factor that could make this transfer feasible is Bayern Sporting Director Max Eberl’s good relationship with the player from their time together in Leipzig. The 26-year-old German International can very well imagine a move to Munich. However, the tense relationship between current Leipzig Sporting Director Oliver Mintzlaff and Max Eberl could serve as a potential impediment to the materialization of this move.
The left-back has played 89 games so far with RB Leipzig and has been an integral part of Marco Rose’s team. Raum’s contract at Leipzig runs until 2027.
Bayern will get clarity on left-back position in the next couple of months. With Manchester United and Real Madrid showing strong interest, Davies could very well be on the move in the summer.
