Xabi Alonso announced earlier today that he will be leaving Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season, as he appears set to replace Carlo Ancelotti as the next Real Madrid manager.

The 43-year-old Basque coach will come in with his own ideas and vision for the squad and has identified some possible transfer targets for the summer, one of whom reportedly happens to be Jonathan Tah.

The 29-year-old defender is set to become a free agent at the end of the season as his contract at Leverkusen expires on June 30 and Alonso is said to be keen on bringing him to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bayern Munich open concrete talks with Tah

However, any move for Tah will not be straightforward as Bayern Munich are pressing hard to sign the German international reports Florian Plettenberg.

Indeed, according to the update, the recently-crowned Bundesliga champions see the 29-year-old centre-back as a priority target for the summer, with manager Vincent Kompany and directors Max Eberl and Christoph Freund all keen on signing him.

As such, Bayern Munich have now begun concrete negotiations with Tah and his representatives to lure him to the Allianz Arena.

It must also be noted that Tah is also a target for Real Madrid’s arch-rivals Barcelona, who are even believed to have an agreement in principle with the player.

Financial Fair Play problems, though, have put the Catalans on the back foot for the moment, allowing Bayern Munich to make their move.

With the Bavarian giants making a strong and concrete push for Tah, it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid decide to make any move of their own or not as Alonso seeks a reunion.

As things stand, Dean Huijsen of AFC Bournemouth is considered the priority target to reinforce the defence at Valdebebas. Whether that changes once Alonso officially takes over will be interesting to see.
