De Ligt is said to have a good relationship with manager Erik ten Hag, having previously worked under him at Ajax.

The player is eager to reunite with his former coach in the Premier League.

Although United have bolstered their backline with the addition of Leny Yoro, another defensive signing could be on the cards, depending on sales.

Hoeness addressed the potential for outgoing transfers in a recent interview with German media, saying, “It’s possible that a defender will leave.”

“De Ligt is Dutch, the coach at Manchester United is Dutch… I would have no problem if he stays. Personally, I would not sell Upamecano.”

Ten Hag recently confirmed to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad that discussions regarding De Ligt are ongoing.

He said, “We still have to wait and see whether De Ligt will come. But the good thing is, during my vacation I was out of the process for three or four weeks.”

“During that period it was really the club, the newly established scouting and recruitment department, that brought in these players.”

“The fact that there are also Dutch players among them is actually a coincidence. Primarily these were players who were brought in by our organisation. But of course, I support them, let that be clear – and we still make the choice together.”

With Bayern seemingly open to negotiations, the potential reunion between De Ligt and Ten Hag could provide United with a significant boost ahead of the new season.
