Bayern Munich have received a major boost ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night.
The two sides meet in what promises to be a blockbuster encounter, having faced each other more than any other pairing in the competition’s history (28 meetings).
Bayern head into the fixture on the back of a 3-2 win over Freiburg and are unbeaten in their last 13 matches across all competitions.
Vincent Kompany could also be boosted by the return of Harry Kane, who missed the previous game through injury.
Kane sustained an ankle injury while on international duty and was unavailable for Bayern’s last match.
The 32-year-old has since returned to training and was involved in the final session ahead of the game, suggesting he is close to full fitness.
Christian Falk has told CFBayern that it did not look like that Kane is struggling with any fitness issues, which should come as a massive relief for the Bayern fans.
Max Eberl also commented on Kane’s availability, by saying: “He’s done everything he can to be involved, he even participated in the final training session. Whether he starts tomorrow or not is Vinnie’s decision. But he’s there and he feels good.”
Kane has been in phenomenal form this season, scoring 48 goals already across all competitions, including 10 in the Champions League.
Real Madrid have dominated recent meetings between the two sides, going unbeaten in their last nine encounters, with seven wins and two draws.
However, Bayern have reached a new level under Kompany this season, scoring 100 goals in the Bundesliga and opening up a nine-point lead at the top of the table.
They were particularly impressive in the previous round, thrashing Atalanta 10-2 on aggregate, highlighting their attacking firepower and confidence.
Madrid, meanwhile, have endured a mixed campaign, including a managerial change from Xabi Alonso to Alvaro Arbeloa, but remain firmly in contention for both domestic and European honours.
