According to an update from Loic Tanzi, Bayern Munich are refusing to back down in their pursuit of Nico Williams, despite the fact that the Athletic Club winger has already made up his mind—he wants to play for Barcelona.

In a final attempt to sway the Spanish international, Bayern have tabled a contract offer worth €10 million net per season, with an additional €2 million in bonuses.

This financial proposal far exceeds what Barcelona can currently offer, especially given their well-documented financial constraints and fair play limitations.

On the transfer front, Bayern have no issues paying the €58 million release clause, which could rise to €62 million when taxes and inflation are factored in.

Why Bayern’s offer might still fall short

Despite the lucrative terms, Nico appears to remain firm on his stand of joining Barcelona.

In fact, reports have indicated that the player has already verbally agreed to a six-year contract with Barcelona.

Furthermore, Barça’s sporting director Deco has been transparent about the club’s desire to reinforce the wings, with Nico topping the list. The club considers him a guaranteed starter on the left flank, forming a high-impact wide pairing with Lamine Yamal.

It must be noted that Nico’s agent, Felix Tainta, has even been tasked with persuading Athletic Club to accept a payment structure in instalments rather than a lump sum—a clear sign of intent from Barcelona.

What’s delaying the move then?

Barcelona are now working on getting financial clearance from La Liga to operate under the 1:1 rule, which would allow them to register Nico’s salary under their wage structure.

While the €58m fee is clear-cut (as with the Joan Garcia deal), registering his salary as part of the club’s top wage tier requires flexibility from La Liga that hasn’t yet been granted.

Meanwhile, Athletic Club President Jon Uriarte is keeping a close eye on the transaction, determined to prevent any form of workaround that would let Barcelona bypass fair play restrictions.

He has made it abundantly clear that no euro will be waived and no payment plan will be accepted.
