Bayern Munich are showing keen interest in signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Alejandro Grimaldo in the next summer transfer window.

The 30-year-old has a contract at Leverkusen until 2027, and Leverkusen will be forced to sell him next summer if he does not sign a new deal.

Bayern have plenty of depth in their full-back areas, but they could still look to sign a new left-wing back next summer.

Grimaldo moved to Bayer Leverkusen from Benfica in the summer of 2023 and has made over 110 appearances for the club.

The Spaniard plays mainly as a left-back, but he can also operate as a left-wing back.

Bayern have not made any contact with Grimaldo’s camp or approached Leverkusen, but internally they hold a serious interest.

Grimaldo has been a key player for Leverkusen over the years, and naturally, they are not looking to sell him.

According to Bild, Leverkusen want to extend his deal, and they are even ready to let the player see out the final year of his contract if necessary, which means it will not be easy for Bayern to prise him away.

Do Bayern need Alejandro Grimaldo?

Bayern have enough options for the left-back role. Josip Stanisic has mostly played as a left-back, even though he is a natural right-back.

Likewise, Konrad Laimer has occasionally played in the left-back role during Stanisic’s absence due to injury.

Raphael Guerreiro can fill both roles, but his future at Bayern remains far from certain. If he leaves, the Bavarian giants can look to bring Grimaldo as a replacement.

Tom Bischof has shown his quality while playing as a left-back for Bayern. However, he is a highly rated midfielder, but he can be a good option when needed.

Grimaldo prefers to return to Spain. Leverkusen would be happy to let him join a Spanish club for a fee of over €10m. However, they will ask a higher fee if Bayern come calling.
